Teaching of writing, literacy development, and adolescent and children's literature
For most of her professional life, Jill been a public school teacher. She began her career teaching Spanish at St. Peter High School. Later, she taught in the elementary grades, and also served as Curriculum Coordinator for the local school district. She is on an extended leave from St. Peter Schools to serve as an instructor in the Gustavus Education Department. Jill teaches elementary methods courses in Language Arts and Social Studies, co-teaches Elementary Interdisciplinary Methods, and supervises students in field experiences. While at Gustavus, Jill also has taught Elementary Reading Methods, Children's Literature and Adolescent Literature.
A major interest is writing and the teaching of writing. Jill has conducted numerous workshops, in-services, and seminars for elementary and secondary classroom teachers focused on the teaching of writing
In 2001, Jill was the recipient of the Swenson and Bunn Memorial Award for Teaching Excellence, Gustavus Adolphus College. in 2000 she received the Kappa Delta Pi Honor an Educator Award from Mankato State University, Kappa Delta Pi Lambda Lambda Chapter.
