Jeffrey Peterson holds an MFA in dance from New York University's Tisch School of the Arts, and a BFA in Dance from the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities.
Jeffrey danced for three years with Minneapolis-based JAZZDANCE by Danny Buraczeski and two with ARENA Dances by Mathew Janczewski. In NYC, he's appeared in the Grand Step Project by Stephan Koplowitz, and with Clare Byrne Dance and DELiRiOUS Dance Co. / Edisa Weeks.
Arriving back to Minneapolis in 2007 after 4 years in New York City, Jeffrey has focused his recent attention on the art of teaching. Since then, he has set original choreography on students at Saint Mary's University - Winona, The University of Minnesota - Morris, Zenon's Block E Scholarhip Program, at Breck School, and for dancers at the Perpich Center for Arts Education.
Dubbed "poetic precision" by Rick Nelson of the Minneapolis StarTribune, Jeffrey Peterson Dance (JPD) has been commissioned by Dance New Amsterdam's In The Company of Men, and Movement Research at Judson Church. Further, his work for JPD has been presented by the Dancenow/NYC Festival at Joe's Pub and JoyceSOHO, Dixon Place, The Bryant Lake Bowl Theater (MN), Kinetic Kitchen (MN), Patrick's Cabaret (MN), and The Minnesota Fringe Festival.
Peterson has served on faculty in the dance departments at Marymount Manhattan College, St. Olaf College, and Saint Mary's University - Winona. This fall, in addition to Gustavus Adolphus College, he will be teaching at Hamline University, Winona State University, and at the Children's Theatre Company. He will appear in the Minnesota Opera's production of The Pearl Fishers in October.
Aside from dancing, Jeffrey is a performer and choreographer for the Govenaires Drum and Bugle Corps of St. Peter, is a big Minnesota Twins fan, a proud member of a bowling league, and resides in Minneapolis. He looks forward to sharing his perspectives on dance and choreography with the Gustavus community.
