Fred Berg is in his 8th year at Gustavus as an assistant coach for the men and women's track and field teams. Coach Berg works specifically with the pole-vaulters.

Prior to coming to Gustavus, Berg coached track and field at Lake Crystal High School for three years and Mankato East High School for the last 15 years. He is currently in his 15th year as a science teacher at Mankato East Junior High School.

Coach Berg began his college career in track and field at Bethel College. He competed for two seasons as a Royal and transferred to Minnesota State University and competed there for two seasons. As a pole-vaulter for the Mavericks, Berg earned all-conference honors in the North Central Conference.
