Flutist Emily Sapa is an active freelance musician and teacher in the Twin Cities and surrounding areas. A native of Bismarck, ND, her early experiences with ensemble music inspired her to begin studying the flute; she currently performs as the principal flutist of Allegro Sinfonia, Wayzata, MN, and is a founding member of Pavia Winds, a professional woodwind quintet. She has had many wonderful experiences with solo, chamber and orchestral repertoire including concerto performances with the Mt Olive Lutheran Church Bach Tage(Minneapolis, MN), the Minnesota Bach Festival Orchestra, the Bismarck-Mandan Symphony Orchestra and the Drake University Symphony Orchestra. Ms. Sapa is an active recitalist and has performed at the University of Minnesota, the University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire, Gustavus Adolphus College, St. Joseph?s School of Music (St. Paul, MN) and other locations in the Twin Cities metro and beyond.
Ms. Sapa is devoted to teaching a wide range of students and was recently appointed Flute Instructor at Gustavus Adolphus College and Minnesota State University, Mankato, and Director of the Gustavus Adolphus Flute Choir. She maintains an active private studio in Minneapolis and at St. Joseph?s School of Music and in the summers she is on the faculty of International Music Camp, located at the border between North Dakota and Manitoba.
Ms. Sapa received her master of music degree from the University of Minnesota, studying with Immanuel Davis, and her bachelor of music degree from Drake University, studying with Patricia Shinehouse, Kimberly Helton and Deanna Hahn Little. She has enjoyed working with a variety of prominent musicians, including Keith Underwood, Pedro de Alcantara and Bart Kuijken. She is also an enthusiastic student of the Alexander Technique, studying with Lisa First, and enjoys cooking, reading and hiking in her spare time.
