Barbara Leibundguth has performed as principal flutist with major orchestras in Boston, San Francisco, Atlanta, and Houston, and was a member of the Minnesota Orchestra for twenty years, including fourteen as co-principal. She was also principal flute with the Omaha Symphony and Opera/Omaha for eleven seasons. A Chicago native, Leibundguth graduated from Northwestern University, where she studied with Walfrid Kujala of the Chicago Symphony. She also studied with French flutist Marcel Moyse for six years, both in the US and Europe. Leibundguth attended the Marlboro, Blossom, and Grand Teton summer festivals, and was featured on the Dame Myra Hess recital series in Chicago and on NPR's 'Performance Today.' She won a 2002 McKnight Fellowship for Performing Artists, and recorded a CD, 'Visionary Duos', for the Albany label. Upcoming performances include concerts with the Bakken Trio, Isles Quartet, and the A la Carte Soloists, as well as a master class/recital at Drake University. When not playing and teaching the flute, she enjoys gardening and spending time with daughter Naomi, 11, and husband Bill, who designs software and virtual reality art installations.
