Telecommunications Fact Sheet

Basic Service

The Telecommunications Department provides basic telephone service to all students in college-owned housing. Each room or group of rooms has standard touch-tone telephone and free local service (includes calls to Mankato).

Long Distance Service

Long Distance service is available to all students, including those living in non-college housing by means of a personal Authorization Code. Students placing calls using their personal Authorization Code from campus telephones are billed monthly.

Long Distance Rates

.10 per minute - all day, every day with no monthly service fees. International calls are billed at discounted rates by individual country.

Billing and Payment

Bills for long distance calls are sent to the students through e-mail by the 5th of each month and are for calls during the previous month. Payment of the bill is due in the Telecommunications Department Office by the 20th of each month. There are payment drop boxes near the campus Post Office and outside the Telecommunications Office in Olin Hall. Cash payments should be made in the Telecommunications Department.

Late Fees

Accounts not paid by the 20th of each month will be charged a $25.00 late fee and the Authorization Code will be deactivated. Service will be restored after payment of all charges. Students should call the Telecommunications Department, x7025, if payment will be late.

Collect Calls

The local Telephone Company blocks student numbers from receiving collect calls. If a call does get through and is accepted by a student, there is a $5.00 administrative charge in addition to the cost of the call.

Voice Mail

Voice Mail is provided at no additional charge for all students. If you use your own telephone in your campus room or use a modem, contact the Telecommunications Department, x6261 or x7025, to have your voice mail message light turned off.

Fax Service

Fax service is available for outgoing and incoming faxes at the Switchboard everyday. There is a charge. For rates and office hours dial 0 or 933-8000 from off campus.

Questions

Students should contact the Telecommunications Department for any questions on telephone or voice mail use including service and repair, authorization codes, voice mailbox numbers and passwords, payments and rates for long distance calling, fax service, gift certificates, and pre-paid calling cards. Office hours are 8 AM - 4:45 PM Monday - Friday. The Telecommunications Department Office is located in Olin Hall 027, phone x7025 or x6261.
