New Student Orientation

August 29 – September 1, 2008

Orientation

Here at Gustavus, we can't wait to welcome you to campus on move-in day! It will be here before you know it. The Gustavus Orientation program is August 29 – September 1, 2008 and is focused on helping you with the transition to Gustavus and establishing a sense of belonging in this community. We know that feeling connected as a Gustie takes a different amount of time for each person. However, we hope with the assistance of many members of our community that you will begin to see this as your home.

Orientation

As soon as you arrive on campus on August 29, you will experience the unmatched enthusiasm of the "Gustie Greeter" student orientation staff. They will welcome you at the entrances and be available across campus to assist with directions or any questions you may have throughout those first four days. They will also be facilitating your Orientation Group, which is designed to help you connect more closely with fourteen other new students and a faculty or staff member, during Orientation and into the academic year. These small groups are great opportunities to discuss what you are looking forward to as well as any concerns you may have.

Below is a list of important dates to assist you in planning your move to Gustavus:

  • Registration for fall classes takes place on campus June 17–19, 2008.
  • Your residence hall and roommate assignment will be sent to you in the mail by the end of July.
  • Over the summer sometime, make sure you pick up and read a copy of the new student Reading In Common book, Chinese Lessons: Five Classmates and the Story of the New China by John Pomfret. You'll be discussing it during Orientation and meeting the author in September!
  • Textbooks will be available in the Book Mark and online at www.bookmark.gustavus.edu beginning August 19. Summer hours are 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
