M.I.A.C. Sportsmanship Program

The Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) has announced a conference-wide sportsmanship initiative which will kick off with the 2006-07 season. The sportsmanship plan will utilize a variety of promotional efforts to create a positive and exciting atmosphere at all competitions. Everyone, including student-athletes, coaches, and spectators are asked to support this important initiative.

Every institution and conference in NCAA Division III was asked to adopt a sportsmanship policy for the 2006-07 academic year. The Division III Commissioner's Association selected "Be Loud, Be Proud, Be Positive" as the official sportsmanship slogan for this season. The MIAC has also developed a sportsmanship logo which will be incorporated into signs, posters, and websites throughout the conference.

MIAC Sportsmanship Plan website is located at www.miac-online.org/sportsmanship.html. This page will detail the conference program plus feature additional resources available for the sportsmanship campaign.

Sportsmanship Principles

"Be Loud, Be Proud, Be Positive" asks fans to respect the following principles of good sportsmanship:

  • Be Loud, Be Proud, Be Positive
  • Cheer for your team, not against the visitors
  • Don't get personal in your comments about players, coaches or officials
  • No profanity, vulgarity, racist or sexist comments
  • Alcohol is not tolerated at any athletic contest
  • Fans are asked to remain at an appropriate distance from the playing area

Sportsmanship Award

As part of a conference-wide sportsmanship initiative, the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (MIAC) announces the All-MIAC Sportsmanship teams. One member of each sport from each MIAC school is selected to the All-MIAC Sportsmanship team. They are selected by their coaches and teammates as individuals who demonstrate ideals of positive sportsmanship both on and off the field of competition.
