Having acknowledged these limitations the original group decided that they, as well as future generations of students interested in business activities outside of class, could more greatly benefit from a business fraternity that addressed the specific topics and ideas that they found to be important. Furthermore, it was determined that a new fraternity would need to be one that could flex easily and quickly along with the will of the members as their interests for the direction and goal of the fraternity changed.
The Development
As a result, Lambda Alpha Nu, GAC's first local business fraternity, was created. With its original 10 members, LAN spent its first 6 months in weekly development meetings to determine what the fraternity intended to promote as well as how the organization would be structured, expanded and changed.
The Product
The result of these early meetings was a completed constitution, recognition as an official organization of GAC and a development plan for attracting and recruiting new membership. Thanks to this preparation and the dedication of those involved, LAN tripled its membership after its first rush in the Spring of 1999. Today, LAN is a flourishing student organization. Membership is at an all time high. This largely due to the founding members and the groundwork that they laid.
LAN will continue to be an organization for current Gustavus business students to share ideas, socialize, actively participate in the community, and continue the pursuit of knowledge in the field of business.
There are 30 bronze works by Paul Granlund, former sculptor-in-residence, installed on the campus.
