Description

Southeastern Europe at the Beginning of the 21st Century: "Challenging the Past and Looking for a Rainbow"by Tom Emmert, History Department. Fifteen years after the start of the war in Bosnia, there has been real progress in parts of the former Yugoslavia. Other areas, especially Serbia, remain problematic. This talk will highlight the work of the Scholars' Initiative, a consortium of over 250 scholars co-directed by Emmert. This group is working to provide a more objective and honest historical analysis of the region. The project hopes to help move Serbia and other parts of the region forward as individual states, as citizens, and as future participants in a broader European community.
