The United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) has selected Gustavus Adolphus senior Lisa Brown as the 2009 Division III Central Region Women’s Field Athlete of the Year. Brown was one of eight student-athletes to receive regional athlete of year honors and is now eligible for Division III National Women’s Field Athlete of the Year.

Brown heads into the NCAA Division III Outdoor Championships looking for her third national title in the javelin with the Division’s second-best mark, an automatic qualifying distance of 161 feet (49.08m) achieved in a third-place finish at the Drake Relays. Brown won her fourth MIAC championship in the javelin by over 20 feet and finished third in the shot put and fourth in the discus. She will compete in both the shot put and the javelin at this weekend’s NCAA Championships.

Brown is the daughter of Steve and Loree Brown of Lake Crystal, Minn. and is a 2005 graduate of Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial High School.
