Junior David Martinson is a repeat All-MIAC honoree.

First-year Ross Ring-Jarvi was named to the all-conference team and the all-rookie team.

Sophomore Josh Swartout was second in the MIAC in goals against average and save percentage.

Three Gustavus Adolphus men’s hockey players have been named All-Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference by a vote of the league’s coaches. Junior David Martinson (St. Louis Park, Minn.), sophomore Josh Swartout (St. Louis Park, Minn.), and first-year Ross Ring-Jarvi, who was also named to the MIAC All-Rookie Team, were recognized. In addition, senior Matt Lopes (East Falmouth, Mass./Bishop Stang) and sophomore Mitch Carlson (St. Louis Park, Minn.) were Honorable Mention All-MIAC selections. Sophomore Brad Wieck (Shoreview, Minn./Rosemount) was named to the All-MIAC Sportsmanship Team.

Martinson, a two-time all-conference pick, is the team’s top-scorer with 38 points on 24 goals and 14 assists. Martinson leads the Gusties with seven power-play goals and is tied for third in Division III in goals scored at 24. He was named MIAC Player of the Week on January 19 after tallying four goals and an assist in a sweep of St. Thomas. Martinson has compiled 45 goals and 34 assists in his two seasons at Gustavus since transferring from the Air Force Academy.

Ring-Jarvi, one of two first-year players to be named to the All-MIAC and All-Rookie team, ranks second on the team in scoring at 30 points on nine goals and 21 assists. Ring-Jarvi is tied for tenth in Division III in points scored among first-year players. He was named the MIAC Player of the Week on December 15 after recording one goal and two assists in a Gustavus win over then-No. 13 UW-Stevens Point.

Swartout, a first-time All-MIAC honoree, was one of two goaltenders named to the all-conference team. Swartout finished the league schedule ranked second in goals against average at 2.33 and save percentage at 91.0 percent. He allowed 18 goals in eight games during MIAC play. Swartout is the first Gustie goaltender to be named to the All-MIAC team since Dan Melde in 2001-02.

Lopes, an honorable mention pick in 2009, led all MIAC goaltenders with a 2.30 goals against average and ranked fifth in save percentage at 90.1 percent. Lopes has won four consecutive games between the pipes and has not allowed more than two goals in each of those contests. His season record stands at 10-4-0.

Carlson is the top scoring defenseman for Gustavus at 14 points on three goals and 11 assists in 26 games. His defensive play helped the Gusties hold conference opponents to a league-best 2.25 goals per game.

Wieck was selected to represent Gustavus on the All-MIAC Sportsmanship Team. Wieck has played in all 27 games this season and is third on the team in scoring with eight goals and 14 assists for 22 points.

Gustavus, which is 17-10-0 overall, captured its first MIAC Playoff Championship since 1993 when it defeated Hamline on Wednesday 5-2 at Don Roberts Ice Rink in St. Peter. The Gusties received the MIAC’s automatic bid in the NCAA Tournament.
