Father Elias Chacour, the Archbishop of Galilee of the Melkite Greek Catholic Church, will visit Gustavus Adolphus College on Monday, May 12.

Chacour will visit with a Gustavus class in the morning before delivering the homily during the daily 10 a.m. chapel service in Christ Chapel. Following the service, Chacour will be available from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. in the Chapel for a question and answer session. Both the chapel service and the question and answer session are open to the public. After a break for lunch, there will be an informal open house for Gustavus students, faculty, and staff from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. in Linner Lounge, located in the O.J. Johnson Student Union.

Chacour is widely known for his efforts to promote peace and reconciliation between Arabs and Israelis in the Middle East. Today he serves as president of Mar Elias Educational Institutions in Ibillin, Israel, where more than 3,800 students are educated with a vision of building bridges for peace and reconciliation between Palestinians and Jews. Chacour is also the author of two best selling books, Blood Brothers and We Belong to the Land.
