Gustavus Adolphus College

On Saturday, May 3, Gustavus Adolphus College will host Honors Day, an annual event that recognizes the academic excellence and achievements of students. This year, several hundred students will be recognized.

Highlights of the event include the announcement of inductees to Phi Beta Kappa, the nation’s oldest and most prestigious academic honors fraternity. This year marks the 25th anniversary of the Gustavus Eta chapter of Phi Beta Kappa.

The selection of students to the Guild of St. Ansgar, named in honor of the first Christian missionary to Scandinavia, and the announcement of 15 female juniors to the Guild of St. Luica, in honor of Gustavus’ Swedish heritage, will also take place. Both guilds recognize academic, extra curricular, and leadership achievements. Departmental honors and scholarship awards will be announced along with institutional scholarships.

Morning activities include a coffee reception at 9:30 a.m. hosted by the Faculty Senate and the Honors Convocation at 10:30 a.m. in Christ Chapel. In the afternoon, senior studio art majors will hold their annual exhibition in the Hillstrom Museum of Art, a senior honors recital will take place at 1:30 p.m. in Jussi Bjorling Recital Hall, the Political Science Research Symposium will be held from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. in Old Main, and the Department of Classics will hold the Festival of Dionysus in the Linnaeus Arboretum from 3:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. The Gustavus Choir will sing its home concert to conclude the day’s events at 7:30 p.m. in Christ Chapel.
