Henry West will give the keynote address at this year’s Minnesota Philosophical Society Student Conference.

Gustavus Adolphus College will host the Minnesota Philosophical Society Student Conference from 9:30 a.m. to 5:20 p.m. Saturday, April 26.

Twenty one students from colleges and universities around the state will present papers throughout the day in rooms in Old Main. The following Gustavus students, who are all honors philosophy majors, are among the 21 students presenting at this year’s conference:

• Danny George, “The Rejection of Essence and the Relationship between Reflective and Nonreflective Experience in Dewey and Nargarjuna,” Old Main 004 at 9:30 a.m.
• Chris deLaubenfels, “Existentialism and Running: Improvement and Camus’ Absurd,” Old Main 006 at 9:30 a.m.
• Rhea Muchalla, “Colliding Coalitions,” Old Main 006 at 10:30 a.m.
• Laura Engel, “The Process of Preferences,” Old Main 207 at 10:30 a.m.
• Harald Van Gaasbeek, “Jane Addams and International Relations: An Alternative Approach,” Old Main 207 at 2:30 p.m.
• Andi Twiton, “Hull House and Democratic Space,” Old Main 006 at 3:30 p.m.

Henry West, a philosophy professor at Macalester College, will give the keynote address at 1 p.m. in room 104 of F.W. Olin Hall for Physics, Mathematics, and Computer Science. West, who is retiring from teaching after 50 years, including the past 40 years at Macalester, will present “John Stuart Mill’s Utilitarianism.”
