Tuesday, April 22, 2008 (11 weeks ago)

An afternoon concert of woodwind ensembles is schedule for Sunday, April 27 at 3:30 p.m. on the Gustavus Adolphus College campus. Under the direction of Ann Pesavento and flute instructor John Samuel Roper, the flute ensemble and the woodwind choir of the Department of Music will present a spring concert in Jussi Bjorling Recital Hall.

The Flute Ensemble, a flute quintet coached by John Samuel Roper, will open Sunday’s performance with Ralph Guenther’s Song of the Bard, a variation on a Welsh folk song. The Woodwind Choir then takes the stage under the direction of Ann Pesavento. The choir opens with William Byrd’s Pavan, Bach’s Fugue in G minor and the Sailor’s Hornpipe by Henry Cowell. The performance ends with the Menuetto and Trio from Franz Schubert’s Symphony No. 5 and Variants on a Czech Love Song, featuring pianist Jill Scheel and composed by Vaclav Nelhybel.

Sunday’s performance of woodwind chamber music is free and open to the public.
