Baseball Loses Twice To Southern Maine

Wednesday, March 26, 2008 (7 weeks ago)

The Gustavus baseball team wrapped up its spring break trip to Chandler, Arizona with two losses to Southern Maine. The Gusties, who lost game one 9-1 and game two 10-1, were only able to register five hits in 14 innings in the two games. Gustavus is now 8-8 on the season. The team finished its spring break trip with a record of 4-6.

It was a rough day for the Gusties who struggled on the mound and at the plate. In game one, Adam Bren was the starting pitcher. Bren went 1 2/3 innings allowing four hits and six earned runs. Kraig Olson entered in the fourth inning and had a good outing. He pitched the final four innings allowing only one hit and no runs. The Gusties, who only managed three hits in the game, scored their one run in the sixth inning on one hit. In game two, Chad Schnettler was the starter. Schnettler pitched three innings and allowed eight hits and five earned runs. Charlie Cicalello, Tory Herman, and Alan Woitas also pitched in the game. Offensively, the Gusties could only muster two hits and scored their lone run in the sixth inning.

Gustavus is scheduled to play Concordia in its MIAC opener on Saturday in Moorhead, Minn. A decision will be made on Thursday whether the games will be played. The Gusties are also scheduled to host St. Scholastica on Sunday and that doubleheader is very unlikely, however a decision will be made on Friday.
