Gustavus Adolphus College and the St. Peter Community and Family Education Office have teamed to provide the St. Peter community with several informational and educational lectures this fall as part of the college’s Continuing Education program. The public is invited to the following continuing education events at Gustavus:

  • “Trees: Poems, Prayers, and Promises” will be presented from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 3. Associate Professor of Biology and Executive Director of the Linnaeus Arboretum, Cindy Johnson-Groh, will discuss how trees, as givers of life, show up in many different cultures and traditions. This session will also explore some of the mythology and literature of trees. The cost for this session is $12 per person.
  • “Alien Invaders From the Planet Earth” will be presented at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 8 at the Interpretive Center. Associate Professor of Biology, Pamela Kittelson, will explain how invasive plant species cause at least $40 billion a year in economic losses. Kittelson will differentiate invasive species from benign exotic species and focus on Minnesota invasive species, the impact they have on the local environment, and how gardeners and sportsmen can limit their damage.
  • “Art, Music, and Literature from World War I: A Sampling” will be presented at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 12 in the Three Crowns Room. Former Professor of Education, Ron Green, will focus his presentation on a few of the more memorable artists, composers, poets, and authors whose works have survived over the decades since the war ended.
  • “0 (nearly) to 135 In No Time: Finding the Swiss in Winneshiek County, Iowa” will be presented at 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 3 in the Interpretive Center. Visiting Assistant Professor of Economics and Management Michael Klimesh will discuss how he and friend uncovered family history through a cemetery research project.
  • To register for continuing education lectures, call 507/934-3048. Lectures are $8 per person unless noted differently. Gustavus employees and students can register for free.
