Mixed Blood Presents Jackie Robinson

Monday, January 15, 2007 (Around 2 years ago)

Gustavus Adolphus College will host Mixed Blood Theatre for a presentation of Jackie Robinson, the acclaimed biography of the baseball legend, at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 18, in Björling Recital Hall. The show covers the life and career of the first African American in major league baseball.

The one-man show, set in the Brooklyn Dodgers’ World Series locker room, is much more than a collection of baseball anecdotes. It is the story of a man overcoming extraordinary obstacles. It illuminates not only Robinson’s baseball career, but also brings to life his childhood, college years, and Army service.

What emerges is a portrait of a fiery competitor and courageous individual whose leadership and influence reached far beyond the confines of the baseball diamond.

This production, sponsored by the Gustavus Diversity Center, is free and open to the public.

Gustavus Adolphus College is a private liberal arts college in St. Peter, Minn., that prepares 2,600 undergraduates for lives of leadership, service, and lifelong learning.
