All faculty are invited to participate in a special workshop, during January, 2009: "How Information Works: Publishing, Libraries, and the Digital Future." This workshop, led by Barbara Fister, will introduce to faculty new databases and web tools for use in classes, provide time for faculty to talk with each other about common assigned readings and about using digital information in courses and assignments, and learn about publishing, open access, and copyright issues. Join us on Wednesday, January 28 for New Faculty Orientation on "Faculty Reviews and Tenure Criteria" (tenure-track faculty only). New tenure-track faculty are invited for lunch from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. in the St. Peter Room. The session on faculty reviews and tenure criteria will be held from 1:30 to 2:30 p.m.

Chili Cook-off

The Chili Cook-Off is back! All faculty, please plan to attend the most tasty event of the year and see if you can dethrone the Classicist's award-winning culinary creation from last year. What to do? Please cook up a pot of your favorite chili, enough to share. No time to cook? Come anyway, there always is plenty for all. The Cook-off will be held Friday, February 13 from 5 to 7 p.m. As usual, Schell's Brewery has graciously agreed to provide the beer; non-alcoholic beverages also will be available.

GRANT OPPORTUNITIES

Mini-grants are available to individuals--tenured, tenure-track, and faculty on continuing appointment—or to departments offer a means to build upon initial learning allowing faculty members to develop and tailor newly acquired ideas to meet their own course needs. Mini-grants facilitate incorporating teaching strategies and best practices in the classroom.
