October New Faculty Orientation Sessions
Scott Bur and Becky Fremo will discuss midterm grades, grading rubrics and methods at the October 9th monthly Orientation Session for new faculty. The October 23rd meeting topic is; keeping students engaged. Free lunch at the Buffet, then meet in the St. Peter Room. Please feel free to get your lunch anytime after 12:15 p.m. - we have a sign-in sheet at the buffet. We'll start the session at 12:45 p.m. and so hope everyone can be through the line by then.
Teachers Talking - "College 101"
Join Dr. Hank Toutain, Vice President of Student Affairs and Dean of Students for the next College 101 Teachers Talking. Join the discussion Vice-President Toutain will lead about who our students are, the important work student affairs professionals do on campus, and what may be coming in the future. Join us on TUESDAY, October 14 from 12:30 p.m. to 1:20 p.m. for lunch and WEDNESDAY, October 15 from 4 to 5 p.m. (wine and appetizers) . Both sessions are scheduled to meet in the St. Peter Room.

Technology Workshops - Request for ideas
This January, the Kendall Center will be hosting several technology how-to workshops for faculty, led by faculty (60-90 minutes in length, held in a computer lab to allow for hands-on work). To help in planning these workshops, please let us know what you would like to learn or learn more about. Also, please suggest a faculty member who might be willing to lead the session. Send your suggestions to Cathy Blaukat, cblaukat, Kendall Center Administrative Assistant.

The Kendall Center has recently purchased three new books: Quality Questioning: Research-Based Practice to Engage Every Learner, Collaborative Learning Techniques: A Handbook for College Faculty, and Effective Grading: A Tool for Learning and Assessment. These books are available for checkout through the Gustavus Library.
