The Kendall Center continues to grow and evolve. We say good-bye to Laura Behling and thank her for her years of outstanding work with the Kendall Center. This year, four Faculty Associates join the director, Barbara Fister, to continue existing and develop new opportunities for faculty to enhance their teaching and scholarly and creative work.

Mark Your Calendars for Faculty Development Day

We're putting together an array of panels for Faculty Development Day, September 2nd. Gather for coffee and breakfast treats in the Heritage Room of the Jackson Student Center starting at 8:45 a.m. and then enjoy three of six concurrent sessions led by your colleagues on topics ranging from how to survive summer research with students to innovations in service learning. Stay for lunch and great conversation.

New Faculty Orientation Sessions

The first Orientation Session for new faculty will be held on September 10th from 12:30 - 1:20 p.m. Free lunch at the Buffet, then meet in the St. Peter Room. All new faculty members are expected to attend orientation sessions throughout the academic year. Each session has a discussion topic and one or more faculty facilitator, to provide an opportunity to share information about the issues of primary importance to new faculty. First Friday Faculty Social

All faculty are invited to the First Friday Faculty Social on Friday, September 11 from 4 to 6 p.m. at Alumni Hall. Get to know new faculty, reconnect with colleagues, and celebrate the start of the new year. Refreshments provided. Hosted by the John S. Kendall Center for Engaged Learning, the Office of the Provost, and the Office of Corporate and Foundation Relations.

Faculty Scholarship in Print

As we did two years ago, the Kendall Center will be putting together a publication listing faculty achievements for 2008 & 2009. If you want to get started, information, examples, and a form can be found on the Kendall Center website. Please make the editors happy, earn good Karma, and follow the style guide included there.

Reading in Common Books

We are able to provide copies of this year's Reading in Common book, Enrique's Journey by Sonya Nazario, to the first fifty full-time faculty members who request it. To put your name in the hat, please click here.

Teachers Talking Fall 2009

Teachers Talking events are informal lunchtime conversations that focus on issues of interest to teaching and learning, higher education, and best practices in pedagogy. Sessions are on Tuesday from 11:30 to 12:20 p.m. and run again at 12:30 to 1:20 p.m. Free lunch at Three Crowns Buffet, then meet in the St. Peter Room. click "more" for upcoming fall dates.
