Pulitzer Prize winning American Civil War historian James M. McPherson will deliver the 2008 Herbert P. and Mary Jane Lefler Lecture at Gustavus Adolphus College at 7:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 13.
At a gala evening following President Jack R. Ohle's inauguration as Gustavus Adolphus College's 16th president on Oct. 3, 2008, Gustavus Board of Trustees Chair James H. Gale announced Commission Gustavus 150, a major initiative to chart the College's future and plan for its Sesquicentennial in 2012. The Commission will be led by Warren Beck '67, President of Edina-based Gabbert & Beck.
At 3:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 3, Gustavus Adolphus College inaugurated Jack R. Ohle as its 16th president.
The Gustavus men's golf team fired a final round team total of 304 and finished second to Saint John's at the MIAC Championships which were held at Bunker Hills Golf Club in Coon Rapids, Minn. The Gusties, who finished with a 54-hole total of 314-299-304--917, were led individually by Ricky Copeland who placed third with a total of 75-71-75--221.
The Gustavus women's golf team held off long-time nemesis St. Thomas to win the first MIAC Championship in the program's history on Monday afternoon at Bunker Hills Golf Club in Coon Rapids, Minn. The Gusties fired a 54-hole total of 324-333-323--980 to finish nine strokes ahead of St. Thomas, which posted a total of 328-335-326--989. Senior Kimbra Kosak tied for second individually with a total of 80-84-79--243.
Minneapolis folk duo and Gustavus alumni Neal and Leandra return for a special Homecoming/Family Weekend concert at the place where they met 27 years ago, Gustavus Adolphus College. With seven successful cds on the market and concert tours taking them from coast to coast, the Red House Recording artists will appear in concert on Saturday, October 4 at 7:30 p.m. in the College's Jussi Bjorling Recital Hall. Tickets for the performance are available at the Gustavus Ticket Center (507-933-7590) or at the door.
Internationally acclaimed bass baritone Simon Estes will perform at 10 a.m. Friday, Oct. 3 in Christ Chapel at Gustavus Adolphus College. Estes' performance will be in lieu of the standard 20-minute daily worship service in Christ Chapel and will set the tone for a day of celebration at the College as Jack R. Ohle will be installed later that day as the College's 16th president.
