Frequently Asked Questions

  • When I become a member of the G Club what does my money do?

When you become a G Club member you are providing Gustavus Adolphus student-athletes and teams the opportunity to realize their vision for excellence. An important factor connected with maintaining our nationally competitive athletics program is providing inter-regional, or in some cases, international competitive experiences for our student-athletes. These experiences are important in order to remain competitive with the best teams in the country, but they are expensive. Your membership gifts will help offset the costs for these special team travels.

  • Can I support a specific sport?

You may earmark your gift for a specific sport(s). You may designate this on the membership application.

  • What is a matching gift and how can it substantially increase my gift?

Many corporations support institutions of higher learning by matching the gifts (on a 1-1, 2-1 or even a 3-1 basis) made by their employees to colleges and universities. Your matching gift is an important way to increase the value of your support for Gustavus. Please check with your company's Human Resources office for forms and specific matching gift requirements.

  • How do I know if my organization has a matching gift program?

Find out if your company has a matching gift program. Policies do vary from one company to another. Please be aware that the employer establishes matching gift guidelines and reserves the right to modify them periodically.

  • Can I make membership gifts to the G Club in ways other than strictly cash?

Yes, the athletic department is always looking for unique ways for alumni/ae, family, and friends to lend their support. For instance, the following are just a sample of innovative ways to contribute:

    1. Frequent flyer miles - Teams, coaches, and administrators often make trips for training, games, and tournaments. Because most travel can be anticipated several months in advance, frequent-flyer mileage certificates can be of significant help in lowering department and student-athlete costs. These are not tax-deductible.
    2. Host a Team - A great way to meet the student-athletes and coaches of your favorite Gustie team without leaving the comfort of your home. If you see that a Gustavus team will be playing a contest in your area please consider contacting the head coach to arrange for a meal or barbecue at your home.
    3. Vehicles - Traveling for contests and recruiting trips places a large burden on our budget. The department is always looking for the donation of vans or cars in good condition and/or contracts with sale/leasing agents that can offer a significantly reduced price.
    4. Event Sponsors - The Gustavus Adolphus College athletics department hosts a number of special events throughout the year. These include the annual Hall of Fame Banquet, the four-year letter winner reception, the academic all conference luncheon, sport team banquets, golf outings, and other special alumni and team events. Event sponsors support awards, t-shirts, meals, travel, and lodging and will receive name recognition at every opportunity.
    5. Gifts in Kind - Providing goods and services in lieu of cash gifts is another way to show support. The athletic department will gladly accept donations of VCR's, video equipment, sports equipment, coolers, training supplies, etc. By contacting our athletics director you can learn of on-going special needs.

  • Does the athletics department hold any special fundraising events in which alumni/ae may participate?

Yes, Gustavus Adolphus wants its alumni/ae to get involved and stay involved with the college and the athletics programs. Throughout the summer various sports team hold golf outings and other special events. These days are outings when alumni/ae athletes can get together with current coaches and staff to have fun and support Gustavus athletics.
