Niles Eldredge Widely known as the co-author, with Stephen Jay Gould, of the "punctuated equilibrium" theory of evolution, he has devoted his career to examining evolutionary theory through the fossil record and exploring the general relationship between extinction and evolution. He is curator of The Hall of Biodiversity exhibition at the American Museum of Natural History, New York.
