The Unfinished Reformation: Faith in Daily Life
Saturday, April 26, 2008

Keynote Address

Jack Fortin

The Rev. Jack Fortin will be the keynote speaker for this year’s convention. His keynote will address the topic of “The Centered Life.” In his book titled the same, Fortin exposes the myth of a life in “balance” to one that is centered in Christ—a life that reveals the richness of our faith specifically to our work, home, congregation, and community—making the important connection between Sunday and Monday.

The 21st annual convention of the Gustavus Adolphus College Association of Congregations will be held on Saturday, April 26, 2008. It promises to be an enriching experience in learning and fellowship as Gustavus hosts pastors and delegates from the 523 ELCA congregations from the region and across the country that are currently members of our Association of Congregations.

The Rev. Jack Fortin will be the keynote speaker for this year’s convention. He will touch on this unfinished reformation in his keynote address on the topic of “The Centered Life.” A centered life is about discovering your calling. Fortin will bring examples, anecdotes, concrete suggestions, and biblical direction concerning living a life of meaning centered in Christ.

The morning Chapel service will feature homilist Rev. Paul Harrington. The Choir of Christ Chapel and the Christ Chapel Bells will provide music to enrich the worship experience. Offering collected will be used toward the establishing of a Covenant Award Endowment Fund, which will allow award recipients to use award funds to invest in their choice of one of the many faith-enriching programs on campus.

During this day, Association delegates will elect members to the Board of Trustees of the College and also the Board of Directors of the Association. The Covenant Award will be presented, recognizing an individual who has made distinctive contributions to strengthen the partnership between the College and congregations of the Church.

Throughout the day, student leaders from faith-connected groups across campus will share information about what is happening on campus to help students grow in their faith. During the luncheon in Alumni Hall, current students will share perspectives on the shaping of their faith journey during their Gustavus experience. Returning by popular request to the format of multiple afternoon workshops, sessions will showcase members of the Gustavus faculty and staff concurrently during two breakout sessions. A schedule and description of the breakout sessions is available on this web site.
