On Saturday, Oct. 28, Gustavus Adolphus College played its final home football game of the 2006 season—the last on the current Hollingsworth Field. After the game (about 3:30 p.m.), the current stadium was decommissioned followed by the official ground breaking for a new stadium to be ready for the beginning of next football season. The library building was completed in 1972. The library and the library before it (built in 1948) were both named in honor of Count Folke Bernadotte, a Swedish war hero and United Nations mediator to the newly founded state of Israel who was assassinated in September of 1948.
