David W. Johnson '84 to receive Arnold E. Carlson Award

David W. Johnson '84 has been selected as the recipient of the 2009 Arnold E. Carlson Award. Gustavus President Jack Ohle will make the presentation during a lecture in Alumni Hall at 7pm. The lecture is free and all are welcome and invited to attend.

The award is given to a person who has made significant contributions by relating Christian theology to ethics in society. Johnson, an opthamologist, led a medical team of nine to Ilula Lutheran Hospital in Tanzania, where they screened more than 700 patients and performed 62 cataract surgeries. During Johnson's 2-day visit to campus, in addition to the lecture, Johnson will speak in Chapel on Nov. 3 and will also visit with students and speak in classes on campus.
