Gustavus Begins MIAC Championships with a Victory in the 5K Freestyle Race

Gustavus placed first in the 5K freestyle competition at the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Nordic Skiing Championships held on Graystone Trails in St. Cloud. The Gusties finished with 39 points, four points ahead of second place St. Olaf. The championships conclude on Sunday with the 10K classic race.

Britta Carlson (SR, Jericho, VT) claimed the individual championship with a time of 17:10. Melissa Kittock (FY, Buffalo, MN) finished third overall with a time of 17:40. Ingrid Olson (JR, White Bear Lake, MN) came in fifth with a time of 17:44.

Gustavus, which claimed its first conference championship in nordic skiing last season, now has the inside track to another title.
