Women's Golf 1997-98 Season
Women's Golf Team Earns First Ever National Ranking - It was a record breaking season for Coach Mike Boschee and his team as they won two out of the six tournaments that they played and carded the lowest team score in the program's history with a 322 at the Concordia Invitational.
The tournament titles, the Buena Vista Classic and the Winona State Invitational, were the first titles ever claimed by a Gustavus women's golf team. At the conference tournament, which was played in very cold and rainy conditions at Northfield Country Club, the Gusties finished a disappointing third out of eight.
Senior Tara Tepley and sophomore Gena Fox tied for 10th place and received all-conference honors. The team was rewarded for its fine play in the fall as they are ranked eighth nationally. They will be attempting to earn the program's first invitation to the national tournament this spring.
1998 Spring Season Recap
Coach Mike Boschee's squad finished its most successful season in school history by winning two tournaments in the spring portion of its schedule and ending the season ranked fifth nationally in the Division III Women's Golf poll.
The Gusties won four tournaments during the 1997-98 school year, including both fall and spring seasons, after having never won a tournament prior to this year. Mike Boschee was named the Minnesota Women's Collegiate Golf Coaches Coach of the Year as a result of the team's success. Junior Tammy Williams led the squad in stroke average at 86.5. Senior Tara Tepley was second with a stroke average of 88.7.
