Tyler Geyen Shines in Hurdles and Javelin As Men's Track and Field Team Finishes Eighth At Carleton Relays

Tyler Geyen finished second in the 110 meter high hurdles and fifth in the javelin to help lead the Gustavus men's track and field team to an eighth place finish (out of 16) at the Carleton Relays in Northfield, Minn. on Saturday. The Gusties scored in 10 different events on their way to posting a team total of 37 points. Saint John's finished first with 126 points.

Geyen, who is off to a solid start to the outdoor season, registered a time of 15.18 in the 110 meter hurdles and then recorded an effort of 141 feet, 10 inches in the javelin. He was the only Gustie to post points in both a running event and a field event.

Gustavus scored the majority of its points in the running events including Colby Citrowske's fifth place finish in the 100 meter dash (11.28), John Leaf's fourth place finish in the 5,000 meters (15:28.55), and Mark Hartman's fourth place finish in the 10,000 meters (32:37.88). In the relays, the Gusties finished fourth in the 4x400 relay (Colby Citrowske, Tyler Geyen, Matt Leeb, Mark Scheer) with a time of 3:26.11), fourth in the sprint medley relay (Mike Bollin, Tony Reed, Dave Erlandson, Ben Treichel) with a time of 3:43.49) and seventh in the 4x800 relay (Jeremy Bock, Carson Smith, Justin Lund, and Jeremy Kuhn) with a time of 8:47.20.

In the field events, Jake Peymann placed seventh in the high jump (5-8) and Nick Davis finished seventh in the discus (128-7).

Gustavus will host the 14-team Drake Alternative Meet next Saturday, April 26 beginning at 10:30 am.
