Football Player Jared Sieling Receives Academic Honor From The National Football Foundation

The National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame (NFF) announced that Gustavus football player Jared Sieling is a part of the 2008 NFF Hampshire Honor Society, which is comprised of college football players from all divisions of play who each maintained a 3.2 GPA or better.
A total of 441 football student-athletes from 227 schools in all NCAA and NAIA divisions were named to the Hampshire Honor Society, an increase of more than 25 percent from the inaugural class in 2007. To qualify, student-athletes must be a starter or significant substitute in their last year of eligibility, have a minimum 3.2 cumulative grade-point average (4.0 scale), and meet all NCAA-mandated progress towards degree requirements.
Sieling, a linebacker from Watertown, Minn., was a four-year starter at linebacker for the Gusties. A 2006 and 2007 First Team All-Conference selection, Sieling has also been a two-time CoSIDA Academic All-District selection and a three-time Academic All-Conference honoree. A physics major with a 3.75 cumulative grade point average, Sieling totaled 105 tackles (36 solo) for the Gusties in 2007, which places him as one of two players in Gustavus' history to post two 100 tackle seasons in his career.
The National Honor Society became the latest component of the organization's efforts to promote combined athletic and academic success. Launched in 1959, the NFF's National Scholar-Athlete Awards program became the first initiative in history to credit a player for his combined academic success, football performance and community leadership.
