Monday night's contest between the Golden Gusties and the Saint Benedict Blazers will be a battle for the top of the MIAC standings in St. Joseph…Gustavus enters the game in a two-way tie with Concordia for third play in the league at 12-6 overall and 11-4 in the conference…Coach Haller's squad finished the week with a 2-0 record with a 77-67 win over Bethel on Wednesday and a 70-60 win over St. Catherine on Saturday…Saint Benedict is in a two-way tie with St. Thomas for first in the MIAC at 14-3 overall and 12-3 in the MIAC…The Blazers picked up a pair of wins last week over Carleton and Bethel by the scores of 73-60 and 85-65, respectively…When these two teams met earlier in the season, Gustavus prevailed 70-62 in St. Peter…The Gusties shot 52% from the floor in the game as Emily Nelson led the way with 13 points.

The Gusties are riding a seven-game winning streak that started January 16 against Hamline…Prior to January 16, Gustavus had lost five of six games…During the current winning streak, the Gustie bench is averaging 24.4 points compared to 12.6 points for opponents…The rebound margin (+13) against St. Catherine was the largest positive margin against an opponent since November 25, 2006 against Colorado College when the margin was 14 rebounds…After being named MIAC Player of the Week last week, Jess Vadnais was also named to the D3hoops.com National Team of the Week… Vadnais is 12 points from reaching 1,600 career points to become the sixth player (male or female) to reach the mark…The Gusties are allowing 60.7 points (third in the conference), while scoring 67.9 points (tied for fifth best)…Gustavus is 10-0 when scoring 65 points this season…The Golden Gusties are 16-38 all-time against the Blazers…During Coach Mickey Haller's tenure at Gustavus, the Gusties are 2-7 against Saint Benedict at St. Joseph.

Saint Benedict is led by Mindy Schmidt who is averaging 11.4 points…No other Blazer is in double-digits…Danielle Frank was named MIAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week as she averaged 15.5 points and 11.5 rebounds in two wins last week…The Blazers have two of the top shooters in the MIAC in Ariel Tauer and Judy Falvey…Tauer leads the league in field goal percentage at 57.6 percent, while Falvey is first in three-point percentage at 48.8 percent…The Blazers have won 11 of their last 12 games dating back to the loss to Gustavus in December…The lone loss was a 49-34 decision against Concordia on January 23…Saint Benedict commits the fewest turnovers in Division III at 13.1 giveaways per game…The Blazers have committed 10 turnovers or less in five games this season…The Blazers tote the best scoring defense in the conference allowing 59.1 points, while scoring 67.1 points (seventh best in the league)…Saint Benedict is 1-4 when scoring 62 points or fewer this season.
