The Golden Gustie women's basketball team hopes to continue its winning ways on Wednesday night against the Bethel Royals on Wednesday night at Gus Young Court. Gustavus is currently in a three-way tie with Carleton and Concordia for third in the MIAC at 9-4. Wednesday's game will be broadcast through the Gustavus website beginning at 7:20 p.m.

Women's Basketball Game Notes vs. Bethel

The Gustavus women's basketball team enters Wednesday evening's contest at 10-6 overall and 9-4 in the MIAC, while Bethel comes in at 9-7 overall and 6-7 in conference play…Gustavus notched a 86-52 win over Augsburg on Saturday afternoon at Gus Young Court…Four players scored in double-figures for the Gusties in the win…Bethel lost a 68-71 overtime heart-breaker on Saturday as Hamline hit a buzz-beater at the end of the game…Bethel is now tied for the last MIAC playoff spot with Hamline…In the first meeting between the two teams, the Gusties squeaked out a 83-77 victory…Gustavus held off a second-half charge by Bethel as the Gusties made 12-14 free throws in the last 1:27 for the win…Jess Vadnais led all scorers with 29 points, including 11-13 from the charity stripe.

The Gusties are paced by reigning MIAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week Jess Vadnais…She averaged 22.7 points last week to help Gustavus extend its win streak to five games…The Gusties were the only conference women's basketball team to finish the week a perfect 3-0…The seven three-point baskets made in Saturday's win were the most made by Gustavus since February 10, 2007 when the team made eight…Bri Radtke and Julia Schultz combined for 3-3 shooting from behind the three-point line against Augsburg…Prior to Saturday's game, both players combined for 3-33 shooting from three-point range…Gustavus is scoring 67.0 points per game in MIAC play (sixth best in the league), while allowing 60.3 points per game (second best in the league) for the second highest scoring margin (+6.7)…The Gusties are shooting 67.8 percent from the free-throw line (eighth best in the MIAC)…The 86 points scored by the Gustavus offense against Augsburg was the highest total since the squad scored 90 points in a 90-76 win against Bethel on February 7, 2005…Coach Mickey Haller has a 15-1 record over Bethel…The Gusties hold a 24-21 edge over the Royals in the all-time series.

Bethel saw its three-game winning streak come to an end on Saturday with a 68-71 overtime loss to Hamline…On January 21, Bethel and Augsburg combined for the most points ever scored by two teams in an MIAC game with 191 in which the Royals won 99-92 in overtime…The old record was 189, set by Concordia (99) and Bethel (90) in 2000…The Royals are led by Annegret Nautsch at 15.9 points and 12.3 rebounds per game in MIAC play…Nautsch is one of two players in the MIAC to average a double-double…All five Bethel starters average 10 points…Starters account for 83 percent of the total scoring as no other player averages over five points…Bethel is scoring 75.8 points per game in MIAC play (best in the league), while allowing 74 points per game (last in the league)…The Royals are first in the league averaging 6.85 blocks as Annegret Nautsch is first at 4.46…Bethel is 2-7 when it shoots below 44 percent and 7-0 when shooting above 44 percent…The Royals are 6-0 when they score 80 points.
