The Gustavus women's basketball team looks to extend its four-game winning streak and avenge an early season loss to the Augsburg Auggies on Saturday afternoon at Gus Young Court. The Gusties and the Knights from Carleton are tied for fourth place in the MIAC standings at 8-4. Saturday's game will be broadcast through the Gustavus website beginning at 12:50 p.m.

Women's Basketball Game Notes vs. Augsburg

The Golden Gusties enter Saturday afternoon's contest at 9-6 overall and 8-4 in league play, while Augsburg comes in at 5-10 overall and 3-9 in the MIAC…Gustavus is coming off a 72-45 win over Macalester in St. Paul on Wednesday night…The Gustie defense held the Scots to their lowest point total of the season…Augsburg fell to Carleton 84-49 in Northfield on Wednesday night…In the first contest between Gustavus and Augsburg, the Auggies came out on top 57-54…The Gusties held a 15-point lead with 14:49 remaining in the contest, but were outscored 25-7 the rest of the way…Shannon Renne was the high scorer for the Auggies with 17 points.

During the Gusties' current four-game winning streak the offense is averaging 72.5 points compared to 63.5 points in the previous eleven games…Defense has helped generate points for the offense as Gustavus is averaging 24.3 points off opponents' turnovers…Gustavus has forced 99 turnovers during the streak, while committing 70…The Gusties bench is averaging 23.3 points per game during the winning streak, outscoring opponents 93-41…Molly Mathiowetz and Emily Nelson have led the charge off the bench averaging 8.8 and 8.2 points, respectively…Starters account for 65 percent of the total scoring…The Gusties are paced by Jess Vadnais who is averaging 18.3 points and 3.33 steals per game in conference play…Gustavus is averaging 65.4 points per game on offense in MIAC play (seventh best in the league), while allowing 61.0 points per game (third best in the league)…The Gusties are 8-1 when they outscore opponents in the second half regardless of the score at halftime and 1-5 when they do not…Coach Mickey Haller owns a 12-2 record over Augsburg…The Gusties hold a 41-11 advantage over the Auggies in the all-time series.

Augsburg has hit a three-game skid where the Auggies have allowed 85 points while scoring 69 points…The Auggies are led by Christa Suedbeck at 11.8 points and 10.5 rebounds per game in MIAC play…Suedbeck is one of two players in the MIAC to average a double-double…Two other Auggies average double-digit scoring in the league, including Kristina Lurken at 11.2 points and Katie LaGrave at 10.3 points… Starters account for 75 percent of the total scoring…Augsburg is averaging 63.0 points per game on offense in MIAC play (ninth best in the league), while allowing 71.4 points per game (tenth best in the league)…The Auggies are second in the league averaging 15.0 assists as Kristina Lurken is second at 4.33…Augsburg is 5-2 when it out-rebounds opponents compared to 0-8 when opponents out-rebound the team…The Auggies have gone 1-7 in 2008 after starting the season 4-3.
