Men's Hockey Defeats Hamline 3-1, Salvages Weekend Split With Pipers

The Gusties scored twice in the third period and recorded an important 3-1 win over Hamline at Drake Arena in St. Paul on Saturday night. Gustavus got goals from Mitch Carlson, Patrick Dynan, and Joe Welch. Dynan tallied the gamewinner at 10:22 of the third period and Welch secured the win with a goal at the 19:46 mark. The Gusties improve to 3-3-0 overall and 1-1-0 in the MIAC.

Hamline opened the scoring on a short-handed goal by Dustin Fulton at 3:19 of the second period. The Gusties tied the score at 1-1 on a power play goal by Mitch Carlson at 14:06 of second period. The score remained tied through two periods.

Patrick Dynan broke the tie for Gustavus with an even strength goal midway through the third period (10:22). The Gusties managed to maintain its slim lead until Joe Welch put the game on ice with an even strength goal with just :14 seconds left in regulation play.

Josh Swartout turned in a superb effort in the nets for Gustavus making 22 saves and picking up his second win of the season.
