The Gustavus volleyball team split matches on the last day of the Gustavus Classic defeating St. Scholastica 3-0 before falling to Viterbo 3-1. Gustavus finished the weekend with a 2-2 record and a 6-2 record overall. Seniors Jen Thelemann (Le Sueur, Minn.) and Andrea Kron (Cold Spring, Minn.) again paced the Gusties with 32 kills and 23 kills, respectively. Kron was named to the eight-member all-tournament team.

Gustavus defeated St. Scholastica 3-0 (30-24, 30-16, 30-24) to start competition Saturday. The dynamic duo of Thelemann and Kron combined for 25 kills in the match. However, the difference maker in the match was the Gusties' ability to outblock the Saints 14-4. Junior Britta Bolm (Alexandria, Minn.) led Gustavus with two solo blocks and five block assists.

In the afternoon session Gustavus fell to Viterbo 3-1 (30-24, 26-30, 27-30, 22-30). After game one, the Gusties were never able to regain an offensive rhythm due in part to Viterbo's 14 team blocks. This combined with Viterbo's 64 kills proved to be the Gusties undoing. Sophomore Meghan Gehring (Eau Claire, Wisc.) put down 16 kills for an amazing .438 hitting percentage while junior Bridget Burtzel (Cold Spring, Minn.) had 49 assists.

Carleton College won the Gustavus Classic to remain unbeaten on the season with an 8-0 record. Nebraska Wesleyan and Viterbo finished with a 3-1 record in pool play.
