The Gustavus women's golf team finished second at the eight-team Carleton Invitational which was played Saturday and Sunday at the Northfield Golf Club. The Gusties fired a 36-hole total of 337-336--673 and finished four shots behind first place St. Thomas which totalled 336-333-669. Breanne Staples (Sr., Windom, Minn.) finished second individually with a total of 84-77-161. She was one shot behind medalist medalist Tricia Nelson of St. Thomas (81-79--160).
Two other Gustavus golfers finished in the top ten individually including Kali Griggs (Fy., Burnsville, Minn./Visitation) who placed fourth at 82-84--166 and Rachel Roberg (Jr., Rice Lake, Wis.) who finished tied for ninth at 86-83--169.
Others contributing for the Gusties included Kimbra Kosak (So., Grand Rapids, Minn.) in 20th place at 85-93--178 and Lauren Runsvold (So., Fargo, No. Dak./North) in 27th place at 90-92--182. Amanda Johnson (Fy., Bemidji, Minn.) played as an individual separate from the team and placed 26th with a total of 95-85--180.
The Gusties, who are currently rated #2 in the most recent National Golf Coaches Association (NGCA) Division III poll, will take part in the Minnesota Women's Collegiate Golf Association (MWCGA) State Tournament next Sunday and Monday (April 22-23) in Becker, Minnesota.
