Gustavus Adolphus junior linebacker Jared Sieling (Watertown, Minn./Watertown-Mayer) has been named Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Football Defensive Player of the Week for the week ending Nov. 5, 2006. Sieling recorded seven tackles (five solo), one tackle for loss, one interception and one sack in Gustavus' 7-0 win over Concordia-Moorhead last Saturday.

Sieling, one of four team captains, picked off a pass by Concordia quarterback Jesse Nelson at the Gustavus 10-yard line late in the second quarter as the Cobbers were driving for a potential game-tying score. Sieling also helped to limit the Concordia rushing offense, which entered the game ranked 18th in Division III at 217.6 rushing yards per game, to 87 yards on 37 carries. Sieling now has 262 career tackles, moving up two spots to fifth place on the Gustavus career tackles list. Sitting fourth on the list is Sieling's older brother Isaac, who made 266 stops for the Gusties during his All-America career (2001-04). Sieling leads the Gusties this season with 68 tackles (29 solo).

The Gusties (5-4 overall, 3-4 MIAC), winners of three straight, close out their season Saturday, Nov. 11 at Carleton in Northfield.

Sieling, a physics major, is the son of Dan and Lori Sieling of Watertown and a 2003 graduate of Watertown-Mayer High School.
