Andy Klaers Finishes 11th in Discus Throw at NCAA Championships

Gustavus Adolphus junior Andy Klaers (Delano, Minn.) finished 11th in the discus throw at the 2006 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships taking place at Benedictine University in Lisle, Illinois. Klaers, who was seeded 16th entering the championships, had a top effort of 156-5. Dan Austin of Williams won the title with a toss of 195-0, nearly 17 feet better than the nearest competitor.

Gustavus will take to the track Friday as junior Tanner Miest (New London, Minn.) and senior Ashley Cronen (Kandiyohi, Minn.) will run in preliminary heats of the 110-meter hurdles (3:40 p.m.) and 800-meter run (5:20 p.m.), respectively. Senior Kourtney Joyce (Wadena, Minn.) will participate in the Friday's only running event final - the 3000-meter steeplechase - at 6:00 p.m. First-year Lisa Brown (Lake Crystal, Minn.) will participate in the women's javelin, which takes place beginning at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 27.

The NCAA Championships, which began today, run through Saturday afternoon.
