The Gustavus women's cross country squad placed third at the Dan Huston Invitational hosted by Wartburg College on Saturday in Waverly, Iowa.
The invite followed a format used for US & World Cross Country Championships. There were two varsity races for each gender. The long races for both genders were the normal 8,000 meter (men) and 6,000 meter (women) racing distances. In addition to the normal racing distances, there were also shorter races at 4,000 meters for men and women. Each race was scored separately. The overall champion was determined for each gender by adding the scores of the long and short races .
Gustavus placed second in the 6K race, which featured many of the best runners from each of the schools at the competition. Nicole Olson and Nichole Petersen placed third and fourth as the two Gusties finished with times of 23:27 and 23:29 respectively.
Head Coach Scott Jerome's squad ran fourth in the 4K race. Jen Skalko placed 10th overall.
The Gusties finished with 167 combined points from the two races. UW-La Crosse (139) and Wartburg (150) placed first and second.
Gustavus returns to action on October 24 by traveling to Northfield to face St. Olaf in a dual meet.
