Men's Swimming and Diving Team in Second Place After First Day of MIAC Championships

The Gustavus men's swimming and diving team had a successful first day at the MIAC Championships which are being held at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center in Minneapolis. The Gusties trail first place St. Olaf by three points 213-210.

Gustavus claimed four event titles on opening day as Scott Hagemeyer won his second straight title in the 50-yard freestyle (20:93), Will Sutor won his second title in the 200-yard individual medley (1:53.84), Ben Hanson won the 500-yard freestyle in a MIAC meet record time of 4:36.90, and the 200-yard free relay team of Hagemeyer, Sutor, Brian Amundson, and Evan Christianson finished first in a MIAC record time of 1:22.89. That effort also bettered the NCAA automatic qualifying time of 1:23.19. Hagemeyer, Sutor and Hanson met the NCAA Provisional Standard in their respective events.

Other top finishes for the Gusties included Brian Amundson placing second to Hagemeyer in the 50 free with a time of 21.14, the 400-yard medley relay team of Hagemeyer, Brad Hammer, Will Sutor, and Ben Hanson finishing second with a NCAA Provisional time of 3:28.07, Greg Pokorski finishing fourth in the 500 free (4:44.30), and Seth Wiedmann placing sixth in the 200 individual medley (1:58.22).
