Season Review
The Gustie gridders got off to an encouraging start against Macalester before being plagued by a pair of tough losses to rival Northfield opponents Carleton and St. Olaf. The Gusties played well throughout the season, but could not quite hang on to their early leads to seal the games in victory. Lack of effort was never a problem, however, and several key performances kept the Gusties in the hunt.
Despite quarterback injuries, the gridders had plenty of offensive firepower. Runningback Kevin Grussing contributed important numbers to the Gustie offense. Grussing racked up 2,117 career yards to take the sixth spot on the Gustavus career rushing list. Tim Belmore pulled down 91 career receptions for 1,196 yards and 15 touchdowns. He ranks second all-time in career touchdown receptions and eighth in yards receiving.
Other Gusties had impressive defensive performances to keep the gridders in the game. Chad Zemple had 18 of the team’s 42 sacks, both of which set school records. Bryan Pavlish also tallied eight sacks.
