Season Summary - Coach Mike Carrolls squad turned in one of the most successful seasons in the programs history as they set the school record for wins in a season with 29 (29-15) and advanced to the championship game of the MIAC Tournament for the first time. The Gusties tied for third in the regular season. In the MIAC Playoffs, Gustavus defeated Concordia 7-6, lost to St. Thomas 4-2, defeated St. Olaf 7-6 and then lost to St. Thomas 6-5 in the championship game. Six players earned all-conference honors including sophomore first baseman Ben Sherer, senior third baseman and pitcher Trent Larson, senior second baseman Bryant Rogness, first year right fielder Tony Konicek, senior left fielder Tyler Vrieze, and sophomore pitcher Josh Spitzack. Sherer and Konicek were also named first team All-Region by the American Baseball Coaches Association (ABCA). Sophomore first baseman Ben Sherer was named the Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Player of the Year by the MIAC baseball coaches. A two-time all-conference selection, Sherer won the MIAC batting title with a .513 average. He also led league in hits (39), rbi (29), home runs (8) and total bases (72). The Bismarck, North Dakota native led team in slugging percentage at .704 and was third in fielding percentage at .984. He ranks 26th in NCAA Division III in doubles per game at .45. Sherer becomes the second Gustavus player to receive Player of the Year honors as Brad Mazer received the honor in 2002.
