Major’s Manual

Welcome to the Department of Theatre and Dance. Our major curriculum is designed to serve you as part of your liberal arts education, whether you have decided to train for a career as a professional artist in theatre and dance, or whether you see the exploration of creative and critical skills in performing arts as preparation for other professional vocations such as education, ministry, management, or law. Our mission is to provide theatre majors with foundational skills in acting, design, and directing, while dance majors study composition, choreography as well as ballet, jazz, and modern dance technique. Both theatre and dance students examine the history, theory, and literature of their disciplines and work to develop their own identities as artists. Finally, the aim of the department is to promote the development of creativity, knowledge, and expertise, while collaborating with other students, faculty, and staff to produce perceptive, expressive, high quality theatre and dance productions.
