2007-2008 Highlights

  • Placed in the Top 20 at the 2008 American Forensics Association National Individual Events Tournament for the second consecutive year; 15 of the top 20 schools are Division I
  • Sophomore Mary Cunningham advanced to quarterfinals at the AFA NIET in persuasion; sophomore Emma Moreau advanced to semifinals in persusion, becoming the first Gustavus student to do so at the AFA NIET
  • Brittney Lovdahl , senior, was selected to the 2008 American Forensics Association National Individual Events Tournament All-American Team
  • First Place Overall in Team Sweepstakes at the Jackrabbit Joust at South Dakota State University
  • First Place Overall in Team Sweepstakes at the Lyle Huseby Invitational at North Dakota State University
  • First Place Overall in Team Sweepstakes at the Talk of the Tundra Swing
  • First Place Overall in Team Sweepstakes at the Minnesota River Swing @ MSU-Mankato & Gustavus Adolphus College
  • First Place Overall in Team Sweepstakes at the Holiday Tournament at UW Stout
  • Seven first place overall team sweepstakes finishes in the first half of the season
  • Maria Siegle and Emma Moreau recieved First Place in Individual Sweepstakes at the Talk of the Tundra Swing
  • A historic 1st place finish in the Open Division 2008 Minnesota Collegiate Forensics Association State Championships
  • 6 of the top 10 individual speakers at the 2008 Minnesota Collegiate Forensics Association State Championships, including individual events champion sophomore Emma Moreau
  • 1st place in 8 of 12 individual events at the 2008 Minnesota Collegiate Forensics Association State Championships
  • Winner of the Greg Lapanta Quality Award at the 2008 Minnesota Collegiate Forensics Association State Championships, earning 10.18 points per slot entered
  • Sophomores Mary Cunningham and Emma Moreau qualified to represent Minnesota at the 2008 Interstate Oratorical Association National Contest with first-year Phil Helt as the runner-up; it's the second consecutive year that Gustavus has had the distinction of sending both Minnesotan representatives
  • At the 2008 Interstate Oratorical Association National Contest, Cunningham advanced to semifinals, and Moreau earned 4th place and was the first Gustie to make finals since 1974

2006-2007 Highlights

  • Placed in the Top 20 at the 2007 American Forensics Association National Individual Events Tournament, making Gustavus history
  • Senior Andrea Carlile and sophomore Tasha Carlson became the first Gustavus students to ever advance to AFA NIET quarterfinals in communication analysis and persuasion, respectively
  • Andrea Carlile , senior, was selected to the 2007 American Forensics Association National Individual Events Tournament All-American Team
  • Andrea Carlile, senior, was selected Pi Kappa Delta All-American.
  • 2nd Place Individual Events Sweepstakes at the 2007 Pi Kappa Delta National Tournament and Convention
  • 2nd Place Open Division at the 2007 Minnesota Collegiate Forensics Association State Championships
  • First Place Overall Team Sweepstakes at the Vocal Viking at Bethany Lutheran College
  • First Place Overall Team Sweepstakes at the University of Wisconsin River Falls Tournament
  • Seniors Andrea Carlile and Bridget Traut qualified to represent Minnesota for the 2007 Interstate Oratorical Association National Contest; this makes team and state history for having one school send both Minnesotan representatives

2005-2006 Highlights

  • Andrea Carlile qualified for the Interstate Oratorical Association National Contest and became a semi-finalist
  • 3rd Place Open Division at the 2006 Minnesota Collegiate Forensics Association State Championships

2004-2005 Highlights

  • 2nd Place Individual Events Sweepstakes at the 2005 Pi Kappa Delta National Tournament and Convention
  • 5th Place Combined Sweepstakes at the 2005 Pi Kappa Delta National Tournament and Convention
  • Qualified 10 students in 21 slots for the 2005 American Forensics Association National Individual Events Tournament held on the campus of Kansas State University, Manhattan, KS
  • Andrea Carlile, sophomore, represented Minnesota at the 2005 Interstate Oratorical Association National Contest held on April 21-23 in Boston, MA. It is the oldest annual public speaking competition in North America
  • 2nd Place Open Division at the 2005 Minnesota Collegiate Forensics Association State Championships
  • State Parliamentary Debate Champions for the third consecutive year
  • Parliamentary Debate League of the Upper Midwest Year-End Sweepstake Champions
  • Brandon Gillette, senior, earned the top speaker award for the 2004-2005 Parliamentary Debate League of the Upper Midwest.
  • Becky Kuehl, senior, was selected to the 2005 American Forensics Association National Individual Events Tournament All-American Team
  • Becky Kuehl, senior, was selected Pi Kappa Delta All-American. Only nine students receive this honor. She also was awarded the L.E. Norton Scholarship, which goes to the top All-American.
  • Becky Kuehl, senior, received the 2004-2005 Valley Forensic League Returning Student Scholarship
  • The Evan Anderson Forum earned 14 team sweepstakes trophies throughout the 2004-2005 season
  • Andrea Carlile, sophomore, was selected to the Pi Kappa Delta National Council as the at large student representative.
  • Dr. Phillip Voight, Co-Director of Forensics, was selected to the Pi Kappa Delta National Council
  • Kris Kracht, Co-Director of Forensics, was selected to the AFA District IV Committee, the Valley Forensics League Executive Committee, Lt. Governor of the Pi Kappa Delta Province of the Northern Lights and to the Minnesota Collegiate Forensics Association Executive Committee
