"Whose child is this?"

You may be singing that carol this Christmas, but we would like you to try to answer the question it poses.  If you look closely you may discern the characteristics of the adult versions that are walking around this campus.  Two clues: One is a boy, the other a girl but rather than giving in to gender typing you will have to figure that out on your own. Clue:  They are both senior psych majors.  The first person who sends in the correct identities will receive free tickets for a movie at the ST. Peter 5.  Send your entries to  Brenda DeBlieck.
Child A(top) is ______
Child B(bottom) is _______.

Buy Books, Save Money

Have you ever bought a used text book for a second semester class only to find out that your neighbor down the hall just sold the same book back to the Book Mark? Knowing I could have saved as much as ten dollars always frustrates me but I have never felt motivated to go through all the work of trying to find someone to buy my used books; not to mention trying to find the books I will need second semester. Now there is a solution to this dilemma that could make us all happy.

Starting with this issue of Emil's Epilogue we will be sponsoring a Book Bulletin Board web page for all students out there that would like to sell or buy used Psychology text books. Here is how it works. Students who are interested in selling their used psychology text books can email Brenda DeBlieck in the Psychology office. If the textbook(s) will be used again second semester, we will post your name on our Book Bulletin Board. Then anyone who is interested in buying your book will be able to contact you on E-mail by simply visiting our page and clicking on your name. We will leave it up to you to finish off the rest of the business.

If you are interested, contact Brenda DeBlicck in the Psychology office and get those books posted for the rest of us to find. Go ahead and tell your friends that are taking or will be taking psychology classes also. The more people use this page, the more useful it will become. Since you have come this far, do not be afraid to take a second to read through the rest of  Emil's Epilogue and see what else piques your interest.

"Shop till you drop?"
It's that time of year again. Break out the Visa and head out to the mall for some power shopping. According to the book 'Overcoming Overspending' by Olivia Mellan, an affliction known as oniomania, or compulsive shopping, affects five to ten percent of the United States-- about 15 million shoppers. This affliction is excessively overpowering during the winter holidays as merchants lure shoppers in with sales and bargains. According to the study, the higher prevalence of compulsive shopping among women may be due to low levels of serotonin.  Sound familiar? Check out the full article on the American Psychological Association web page at

and have a wonderful holiday season!

Dear Emil's Email

Dear Emil,
I noticed that the requirements for the major has increased to 10 courses.  I am a junior and I completed the 8 required courses for the major listed in the College Catalog I was given  as a Freshman.  Do I have to take two more courses now?  Psyched Out

Dear Psyched Out
No you don't HAVE to take two more courses to complete the major.  The requirements that apply to you are those that were in effect when you enrolled your first semester. However, two more courses will make you a better person.
