Dr. Mimi Gerstbauer is an Assistant Professor of Political Science and serves as the Director of Peace Studies. Professor Gerstbauer teaches international relations courses, US foreign policy, Latin American politics and politics of developing nations, and Introduction to Peace Studies. Her teaching and research interests include nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) in international politics and peacebuilding, faith-based actors in peacebuilding, post-war reconciliation processes, and the role of forgiveness and apologies in international politics. Gerstbauer's recent presentations and publications include: The New Conflict Managers: Peacebuilding NGOs and State Agendas (in New Threats and New Actors in International Security, Palgrave, 2005); The Anti-War Art of Kerr Eby and the Idealism of the Interwar Period with Don Myers (Peace Review); and Forgiveness in International Relations: A Framework for Relevance (presented at the International Studies Association meetings). Professor Gerstbauer is also a participant in the Calvin College Summer Seminars in Christian Scholarship and has interests in experiential and service-learning pedagogies. She has been with Gustavus since 2001.
