Professor Behling teaches a range of courses in American literature, with special interests in the modern and contemporary periods. She also has a particular interest in the intersection of literature with medicine, and more broadly, with the medical humanities. Recent courses have included the American Novel, American literature surveys, Modern Fiction, senior seminars on Anatomy and American Literature and Reading the Body, and special topics courses on Transatlantic Modernism and the Modern American Culture of Sex and Gender. Currently, she serves on the MLA's Teaching as a Profession Executive Committee and at Gustavus, co-directs the John S. Kendall Center for Engaged Learning. In 2003, she taught at Palacky University in Olomouc, Czech Republic, as a Fulbright Scholar.
