Brass at Gustavus... this phrase embodies our commitment to the highest musical standards for our brass students and faculty, standards that are reflected in every lesson and performance. In addition to the concerts presented by each ensemble during the year, Gustavus brass students are encouraged to participate in master classes, Monday Night Recitals, solo chapel performances and brass chamber ensembles.
Get in touch with our Admissions Office. The Björling Scholarship tapes are due in early January, but let us know if you are running late!
Tired of counting measures while the clarinets rehearse? Have you depleted your supply of crossword puzzles during orchestra? Try a little chamber music, the cure for the common musical experience! The technical and musical challenges presented in the brass chamber literature help students reach their goals as musicians. Gustavus offers a number of quintets, quartets and trios for this purpose. Hornists are also encouraged to play in one of the numerous woodwind quintets.
Our students may tour the world with the larger ensembles, but many people may not know how often Gustavus ensembles play for schools and churches throughout the Midwest. If you want to bring Gustavus brass ensembles to your church or school, contact Rev. Grady St. Dennis in the Gustavus Office of Church Relations at 507-933-7661.
Would your students enjoy a master class with one of our chamber ensembles? Contact Scott Moore at 507-933-6260 for more details.
